Great Black-Backed Gull (Larus marinus) is the largest member of the gull family in the world, measuring about 30 inches in length and about 3.6 pounds in weight. Adults are very dark from above, and have pink legs, as well as white spots on the wingtips. They are most common on the Atlantic coast of Canada, United States, and Europe. They commonly feed on fish, but also on squid, crab, and of course on human garbage.

This Great Black-Backed Gull swimming to shore with a newly-captured crab in its bill was photographed at the Tods Point Park, in Greenwich, Connecticut on 12-23-2018. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikkor 500mm f/4.0E FL ED VR2 telephoto lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/1600 sec, f/5.6. ISO 800.
