Spring Art Activites 2011 for Kathy Braud

I have been busy! This blog is dedicated to many events and shows in which I am involved this spring.

A Spring Watercolor Exhibit of original work by 10 artists is on display for your viewing pleasure in the Arts Alliance Main Street Gallery, Elk River, MN. March 30 - April 30, 2011

"Rainbow Abstract" by Kathy Braud,(seen here)is also on display.
All paintings in the exhibit are watercolor or acrylic used in a watercolor manner.

The artists are Jim Anderson of Monticello, Duane Barnhart of Aitkin, Cherene Bebeau of Princeton, Kathy Braud of Little Falls, Henry Johanson of Elk River, Eleanor Johnson of Big Lake, Judy Meyeraan of Big Lake, Kim Pietrzak of Big Lake, Mary Steinson of St. Paul and Chris Wilson of Elk River.

Florals, landscapes and portraits are on display —and something new. Anderson uses watercolor paints in a special technique he calls “cementious” to create furniture and wall art. Impossible to explain, it must be seen

On February 21, 2011, Lakeland Public Television for “Common Ground” came to Little Falls.
Steve McKnight, Legacy Producer/Director, came to visit with me on a snowy winter day.

He videoed me painting, doing a Elegent pen demo, showing and talking about art and watercolor paintings.
Maybe this video will be ready to be aired in May 2011 on the show Common Ground after it is edited.
He was here about 2 hours and made me feel fairly comfortable in front of a camera.

NSW Artists for Abundance 2011 Judged Spring Mini Show and Fundraiser to support the Food Shelf

I was among 50 artists who participated in this event combining art and raising money and food donations for the food shelf. Small mini paintings were on display at the Susan Fryer Voigt Gallery, Dock 5, Northrup King Building, NE Minneapolis for this 3 day event March 3 -5 2011.
I had painted a small still-life of apples in a bowl. Kind of fun.

40th Minnesota State Area Invitational Art Show March 1 – 30, 2011

Waage Art Center, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Fergus Falls Campus,
Fergus Falls, MN
This is a great show showcasing the work of artists in the Central -Western part of the Minnesota. I was able to display 2 paintings in this show at the Charles Beck Gallery and received a Merit Award on “Dawning the Jewels.”

RRWS 2011 18th Annual National Exhibition

I have entered my paintings for the jurying process.
Juror – Marilyn Hughey Phillis(AWS,NWS) Around May 1, 2011 we will be notified and know our status of acceptance.
While I am already a signiture member of the RRWS, it is fun to enter the show and possibly receive a nice price award. At the RRWS reception, it is also fun to visit with the many artists we also know from all parts of the country.

VAM Mail Art St. Cloud, MN

Visual Arts Minnesota had a Mail Call for donated art to increase the support of their satellite galleries. A fall 2011 auction is planned to sell the pieces. The art had to be unframed, fit in a small envelope and be mailed. I submitted “Tiny Gem,” a 5x7 mixed media painting in mid February. It also has a presence in an online VAM gallery.

GRAA 10x10 Show A Celebration of Art and Community

Displayed in the Front Window Salon Gallery at GRAA
This show is in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of occupying the “new” building.
122 SE First Street, in Historic Downtown Little Falls.

The pieces will be sold as a fundraiser for the GRAA non-profit organization.
What? 2 D original pieces of art, 10 x 10 inches or cm not matted.
All mediums accepted. It can be wild!

The Art is considered a donation and will be sold for $20.11 each. (the year 2011 - get the pun?)
Art will be displayed in April and be ready for the evening Party for the Arts,
Saturday, April 30 - which is a major fund raiser for the organization. It will remain on display and be for sale all of the month of May.

Shhhhhhh - Some secrecy here -
No signing on the front of the painting – so it can be hung anonymously.
Once purchased, the artist will be identified on the exhibit listing, and on the website.
I contributed 20 paintings 10 x 10 cm or 10 x 10 inches.
A reasonable mat and frame package has been put together also to help get these little original artworks up on your walls.

NSW Spring Workshop with Sterling Edwards. April 25 – 29, 2011

I am taking this wonderful Northstar Watercolor Society watercolor workshop right after Easter Sunday.
It will be held at the Susan F Voigt Gallery, Dock 5, Northrup King Building, NE Mpls. MN
9:00 am – 4:00 pm for 5 days. I will stay in the cities and not commute home (100 miles away).

Google Sterling Edwards and see the quality of his artworks.
What is a workshop like?
It has an intense creative art feeling we all get caught up in – like an “art storm” activity. We get so tired from the bursts of energy by the end of the week.

My workshop grant - "This project was made possible by a grant provided by the Five Wings Arts Council with funds from the McKnight Foundation."

Fred Sommers Mini workshop Saturday, March 26, 2011

I Participated in this Central Minnesota Watercolor (CMW) club short workshop activity
9 – 3 pm Held at Atonement Lutheran Church
$75 fee/person and included many materials.

Fred was a good teacher and had a lot of useful information to share and help us use and manipulate this dry pastel pigments to enhance our watercolors - if we so choose.
I know more now about pastels then I did before!

Rotating Art Show

My art club, Artist del Norte, in the Blaine- Coon Rapids area
has a unique method of getting art out amongst the people.
They have a rotating art show that has been in existence for a long time.

Businesses sign up for a year for a fee and get a tax deduction, and artists sign up for a fee to provide original works to the walls. It’s a win –win situation.
The earnings help the AdN group to provide funds for demo’s and other services for the members. They are always searching for new clients to service with art and new artists to display and hopefully sell some artwork.
The amount of art we hang depends on the amount of wall openings at the business.

Rotating Art Show for 1st Qtr Jan – Feb - Mar
I had 12 paintings at the Anoka County Government Center, County Attorney Office.

Rotating Art Show for 2nd Qtr Apr – May - Jun
State Farm Insurance - 1
Channel 15 – Blaine - 5

Kathy Braud Watercolor Exhibit
Local Blend Coffeehouse and Wine Bar in St. Joseph, MN.
April and May Exhibition

Stacie and Jeff Engholm – owners
19 W. Minnesota St., St. Joseph, MN 56374 telephone 320-363-1011

This business in an old fashioned building is a great place to enjoy a good cup of coffee and pastry.
I was taken with the high ceilings covered with tin type designs and the big open walls waiting to display large paintings.
The wood bar, booths, old wide moldings and decor provide character too.
I can see why the college students want to hang out here.
While we hung the art exhibit, our noses were assaulted with the good smells of fresh bakery and strong coffees. But by mid morning, we did enjoy our breakfast. I understand they have organic foods and can serve vegetarian dishes also.

The Local Blend is located close to 2 colleges, St. Benedicts and St. John’s, just off of I-94. Jazz music is performed live at the Local Blend Coffee shop by the fireplace 1 – 2 times per week in the evenings.

The owners are great people. Stacie is so energetic and such a vital part of running the daily activities. Her laugh is wonderful! Jeff is a musician, composer, and educator and truly enjoys the stress release of music in his day.
I hope someday you get to enjoy this wonderful shop while my art is still on display!
